The Fourth Wave
& “Gas Station Heroin“
As a knowledgeable consumer and advocate, it is critical to understand the most significant threat facing the leaf kratom community: the rise of a potential fourth wave of the opioid epidemic. This wave is fueled by potent, semi-synthetic, or synthetic products often called “Gas Station Heroin,” which are dangerously and deceptively sold in convenience stores with no medical oversight. This course will teach you the essential distinction between traditional leaf kratom—with its complex symphony of alkaloids—and these synthetic analogs like 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), which have a pure opioid receptor effect similar to morphine. Understanding this difference is vital for protecting public health and advocating for sensible regulations that target dangerous synthetics, not traditional botanicals.
